Overview

The first stop of the tour is Selinari Monastery, located on a hill above the sea. As you approach the monastery, you’ll see its white-washed buildings perched on the hillside, surrounded by lush greenery. The Monastery is dedicated to Saint George and was built in the 17th century. Inside, you’ll find a collection of valuable icons, frescoes and other religious items, as well as a beautiful church.

Next stop is Plaka Spinaloga, a small island located at the entrance of the Gulf of Elounda. The island is also known as “the island of lepers” as it used to be a leper colony. You will visit the ruins of the houses and the church, which are now an archaeological site. You’ll also get to explore the island’s natural beauty, with its rocky cliffs and clear waters.

After the visit of Plaka Spinaloga, the tour includes a stop for a traditional cretan lunch in a nearby taverna. You will have the chance to try some local specialities such as dakos (a traditional Cretan dish made of barley rusks, tomatoes and feta cheese), mousaka (layered eggplant and meat dish), or tzatziki (a yoghurt, garlic and cucumber dip).

The last stop of the tour is the beautiful coastal town of Agios Nikolaos. This charming town is located on the northeastern coast of Crete, and it is known for its picturesque Venetian port, crystal clear waters, and the small island of Agios Nikolaos in the middle of the port. There you have time to stroll around and discover the town on your own, visit the Archaeological Museum of Agios Nikolaos, have a drink or some traditional sweets by the sea.
